My conclusion re the remote is that, like other technologies, Apple was
trying to accelerate the Mac's (and other Apple technologies') advance
into the "living room" with FrontRow and the remote giving virtually
all Macs some sort of "media center" status while not having to build
specific media center products.
What I find somewhat surprising is that, at least in the microcosm of
the condos where I live, Apple might have been successful in this
attempt. A number of my neighbors have "media center PCs" and only one
of them actually has the Winbox usable as part of their home
entertainment system while at least five of the other Mac owners (i.e.
not counting me) has their Mac hooked up to play with their TVs, etc.

Not all iPods except for the shuffle have a dock connector.
My iPod with Scroll Wheel has a FireWire connector. This iPod won't
appear on my new iMac desktop but connects to iTunes on a 1st Gen. iMac.
The new hardware knows the old iPod is there since it is listed on the
FireWire Bus as a 400 Mb/sec device in System Profiler.

all ipods (other than the shuffle) made in the last five years have a
dock connector. first and second generation ipods don't.

there's an issue with firewire on the new imacs and ipods. >> Stay informed about: New Macbooks and Macbook Pros |

Way to go! The question on the table at the moment is whether you can
understand it. "All the current iPods" provides more than adequate
context. >> Stay informed about: New Macbooks and Macbook Pros |

I think I got it. Current iPods will connect to a new Mac computer.
If my iPod has current software is it not a current iPod?
Older *working* iPod models, may or may not work with the latest iMacs.
What I have learned from this experience is that Apple may not
continue support for working Apple products.
One needs to keep an old working iMac to update an old working iPod.
I guess Apple doesn't expect their products to last more than
6 or 7 years. No one here seems to care. >> Stay informed about: New Macbooks and Macbook Pros |

My iPod has a FireWire connector too, and I have no problem connecting
to and syncing with my Intel iMac running 10.5.2.

If Apple is currently selling it, it's a current iPod. Don't make this
more complicated than absolutely necessary.
