Post subject: Mount DiskCopy dmg image on a PC
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>cdr>mac, others (more info?)

My internet research has not been able to uncover the proper approach
behind burning Mac CD images on the PC. I would like to burn DiskCopy
dmg on my PC. Mac OS 9 does not fair better with these dmg files.
Apparently, you need OS X to mount dmg images. I understand that Macs
have data and resource forks, thus Window applications have difficulty
with them. But XP's NTFS does not destroy the resource fork. In
addition, I thought all CD-R following some colorful book's
specifications. Let me know if you could answer any of following
questions.

How does one burn a Macintosh Toast image (*.toast) on a Windows XP
under NTFS drives?

How does one burn a Macintosh DiskCopy image (*.dmg) on a Windows XP
under NTFS drives?

How does one burn a Macintosh DiskCopy image (*.img) on a Windows XP
under NTFS drives?

How does one burn a Macintosh Shrinkwrap image (*.smi) on a Windows XP
under NTFS drives?

How does one burn a Macintosh DiskCopy image (*.dmg) on a Linux?

How does one burn a Macintosh DiskCopy image (*.img) on a Linux?

Just ask the burning software to burn as an ISO image. All decent
software package do it. Some will insist on having the file renamed.
EZCD will probably hang because it won't be able to ascertain whether
this is a mode 1 or mode 2 image.

NTFS doesn't play any role, since it is the file you burn.

Put them in an ISO project and burn. Once again, NTFS doesn't play any
role.

Create an ISO image (toast can do this) and you can burn it on about any
system you like (windows, linux, hpux, solaris, mac, ...) using any program
you happen to like or own on that platform (cdrecord, cd creator, nero, ...)

If that is not the answer to your REAL problem, then explain your problem
instead of the solution yu had in mind. A good description of your problem
would be "I have a TOAST image file on the harddisk of my macintosh. How can
I transfer and convert this file to burn it to a CDR on a Windows XP
machine?"

The reason your research yielded nothing is that you are looking for the
wrong things. To me, a question like

 > How does one burn a Macintosh Toast image (*.toast) on a Windows XP
 > under NTFS drives?

is like asking:
"How can I bake an apple pie using a television set with a blue s-video
connector?"

A "toast" image is only useful for a program named "Toast". Probably, that
is why they call them "toast" images. That Windows XP has NTFS drives is
irrelevant to this.

Whatever happened to the charge of lible, Timmy? Have you forgotten
that Mikey is pitifully, pathetically counting on you?

Timmy cannot prove ANY of the following is a libel -- despite Mikey's
