I have a Mac G3 with ethernet. LaserJet 4M plus with 14 mb ram,
postscript and jetdirect card. Can not get the computer to communicate
with the printer. In the control panel of the printer, I set MIO CFG
Network to "YES"; but it keeps defaulting to no. I am not sure what
other settings I need to modify on the printer and/or computer. Can
anyone shed some light on this? I am a OS X rookie, so any info is
gladly welcomed. Thanks.

if i recall you have to hit the enter button on the panel to make the
change stick. I have a 4+ but not right in front of me and off hand I
don't remember the button but it's on the top right. By the way on my
jetdirect I can change the address right there in the printer using the
printer panel controls, I don't know if thats true for all HP laserjets.

The printer drivers are all built right into OSX, I did not have to
download drivers for this old workhorse.

Anyway good luck

Yes, you have to push the Select button each time you answer a question
or make a change to a setting using the control panel, including pushing
it each time you change one of the four numbers in an IP address.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

You must then press Enter.
This will allow you to do the config.
Press Enter for each change you make and they will be registered.
As soon as you leave the CFG menu it will default back to NO

You're not by chance going thru a router? If you are you will have to
program an new IP address into the printer. You will go into the
network pane of system preferences and look at the IP address of your
computer and router (if you have one) then go to the printer and key in
all the numbers except the last three, they (the last three) have to be
different from your router. On my jetdirect with the latest firmware I
was able to do that using the keyboard on the printer.

Router or no router, I don't remember?

Good luck

I wish I could help more, but I'm kind of lost at this point for any
other suggestions based on the available information.
