Geneforge 3
An Upcoming Fantasy Role-Playing Adventure for Windows and Macintosh
Spiderweb Software, makers of the award-winning Geneforge and Avernum series,
announces the upcoming release of Geneforge 3, their newest fantasy epic with a
science fiction twist. In Geneforge 3, you can explore strange, hostile lands,
choose which side you will fight for, and, as always, make your own horde of
completely obedient mutant monsters.
You have been chosen. You are one of the precious few who will be allowed to
become a Shaper. You will be given the power to create life and mold it to
serve your own needs. The whole world fears and respects the Shapers. Your
secrets are many, and your power is absolute.
But then, the disaster happened. Your school was attacked and destroyed.
Rebels and monsters begin to roam the lands, challenging the rule of the
Shapers, bringing fire and destruction with them. On your own, in a foreign
land, you will have to attain power, find allies, and discover a way to defeat
the rebels.
Or perhaps, you will join the rebels instead. Because, for some reason, they
seem very eager to recruit you ...
Geneforge 3 has a huge and open storyline. You can help one of several
factions, each with its own goals. There are dozens of different endings. You
can help the rebels, or fight them. Slay your enemies, or use stealth and
diplomacy. When you finish the game, start over, choose a different side or
tactics, and experience a completely different game. No matter what you choose,
Geneforge 3 offers an enormous adventure with plenty of replay value.
Geneforge 3 will be $25, or $32 with a hint book. It will be available for both
Windows and Macintosh in the first half of 2005.
Screenshots, more information, and a large demo are available at

The demo wasn't "amazingly obvious even to stupid people like me" after
quickly skimming through 3-4 related-looking pages.
A more direct link?
Thanks!

Here's a little tip. This is not a press forum, it's a
discussion forum. Don't alienate your clientele by
advertising in a discussion group.

Aww, c'mon -- they run, what, an announcement every 9-12 months? It's
not like they're spamming the bejesus* out of us or anything. I, for
one, appreciate occasionally one-time notices like that one.
I just wish I could find the DEMO from the link they provided :\

This is a newsgroup about adventure games for the Macintosh. In my
opinion this is a great place to advertise about upcoming adventure
games for the Macintosh. Then we can discuss about the upcoming game as
we are doing now.
I just wish I could find the demo. I looked all over and couldn't find a
single link to it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: [PR] Coming Soon - Geneforge 3, New Fantasy RPG |

A) This is a discussion group, not an advertising group.
B) What was posted was an advert, not discussion.
C) What it advertised wasn't even the game, it was just a
web site about the game.
D) The game isn't even available yet, so all it was was a
marketing exercise.
> I just wish I could find the demo. I looked all over and couldn't find a

There was no demo available. They were trying to trigger
viral marketing for vapourware.
Had the original post said something like
# There's a new adventure game for the Macintosh. If you
# like playing X or Y you'll probably enjoy this, but it's
# better because you can do A and B. You can download a
# demo from this URL.
I wouldn't have had a problem. It would have been discussion
of an adventure game which runs on the Mac.
Simon.

This is a newsgroup about adventure games for the Macintosh. Both
discussion and announcements are welcome.
> B) What was posted was an advert, not discussion.
What was posted was an announcement, not an advertisement.

Hence, "announcement", leading to "discussion".
> D) The game isn't even available yet, so all it was was a

We call those "announcements."
What's the big deal, anyway? You've spent 100x more energy bitching
about it than it would take you to killfile everything from Spiderware
in the future. Plus you're wrong. Plus you're being a twit about it.
What's your point? When was the last time *YOU* posted discussion to
this group?
> > I just wish I could find the demo. I looked all over and couldn't find a

And you are privy to their motives ...how?
Put another way: what would you think were someone to suggest "Simon has
no point. He's a trolling wanker who only wants to raise a fuss about
nothing"? You might wonder where people would get such ideas without
actually talking to you. Indeed.

Sounds like an announcement, to me.
Sounds remarkably similar to what they posted, actually -- the main
difference being that you have to visit their URL to read why GenForge3
is better than other games, and how it's similar to and different from
others.
Of course, you've got them on the missing demo -- but that's hardly
reason to raise such a fuss. I'd bet that most who read this group
would prefer Spider's occassional announcements to your griping about it
pointlessly.

Well then, let's discuss Geneforge 3...
From what I can see, it's GUI is not different from it's predecessors -
I played both demos for a few hours but never bought the whole games. No
complaints on the story lines afaik them, but I'd really like to see an
improvement here: What about utilizing at least 20 % of the "16 bit
graphics" needed to play it? If the one who created the game's title
screens could brush up it's interface and some of the in-game-grapcics,
too, it would appeal so much more. Getting rid of pure rectangular ways
and walls will be dream, I guess...
Mind you, I'm not asking for "photo realism", I still play Baldur's
Gate, which isn't exactly a modern game, either, but looks so much
better.

Can you tell the rest of us where you got the demo for GF3?
Thanks!

I have a similar opinion of the Geneforge and Avernum games that while
they are a lot of fun the graphics are all very similar to each other
and there isn't a lot of variety. The same icons have been used for
years and improving them would be a good step to take.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: [PR] Coming Soon - Geneforge 3, New Fantasy RPG |

I agree that the graphics could be better. However, keep in mind the
difference between the size of the BG development team and the number
of people who work at SpiderWeb.
