According to Apple's official specifications for OS 10.3, it now supports
DVD+R.

Does this mean that, if I upgrade my iBook 800 MHz (with Toshiba SD-R2212
combo drive) from Jaguar to Panther, then I will be able to read all of
these data DVD+R discs that I have burned on my PC?

Currently, when I put a DVD+R into my iBook, it just complains that there
are no readable volumes on the disc.

The drive still needs to be +R compatible. Apple has not officially
supported +R in any of their drives. Even if the drive mechanism
normally would support it, Apple has been known for using custom
firmware to disable unsupported features.

Apple's support for +R, officially, will only apply to third-party
drives. Any compatibility you may encounter with Apple drives will
be purely coincidental. (Much like the DVD-RW compatibility I get
from my DVR-104 SuperDrive.)

Has anyone with Panther, a DVD+R disc and an iBook with a Toshiba SD-R2212
experimented with this?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
