Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>wanted (more info?)

Hi. I have a very large (hundreds - thousand +) collection of movie
related photos and I am wondering if there is a software program that
would allow me to scan the images, create a thumbnail and catalogue
them with various attributes (name of film, description of photo,
number of copies, etc) so that they can be searched and viewed.
Ideally, it would be a system in which I can search by one of the
attributes so that, during the inventory process, I can see whether
another copy of the photo has already been logged. I'm also looking
for suggestions as to a laptop that could handle this type of job, as
the photos are in different rooms and buildings, and the portability of
the hardware would be good.
Thanks

While it doesn't do the scanning, we use Portfolio from Extensis to do
this with multiple libraries and thousands (5 figures) of images.
Others use Cumulus or iView Media Pro.

Any of the Mac laptops should be able to handle this just fine.

Thanks. If I can just get some clarification - I'm still in the
research phase of this and am very much a novice - I'll basically need
to hook up a scanner and scan the images, get them on the hard drive,
and import into one of the programs you mention. Does that seem
accurate? And, finally, will I be able to produce a list of the
inventory as well? Perhaps by title and quantity or something like
that.
Best

Please don't top post.

Yes, that's accurate.

Yes, you will. Each of the programs I mentioned has a demo version
available. Download and poke with a stick.
