Excellent point. I'll check that out with the scanner manufacturers.
Thanks!

I cloned my hard drive to an external drive before installing leopard, I
can still run it on that. As far as I know that is the only way to do it
and I have to reboot to do that. I'm planning on buying 6.

Judging by the press release on the FileMaker web site, they didn't
announce FileMaker Pro 5.5 until May. I expect it was in the hands of
FileMaker Developers prior to that for beta testing. You might have a
pre-release version.

That doesn't explain your 6.0. It is a year newer (my CD modification
date is 24 May 2002), by which time Mac OS X was well established.

My CD labels don't say "printed in" anywhere. They mention the USA in
the context of declaring "FileMaker" as a trademark.

I suppose I should take a photo and put it on my web server for your to
compare. (No scanner.)

I just tried running my 5.5 on Mac OS 7.6.1 (on my PowerMac 8600). It
refuses to run, bringing up a generic error dialog.

"FileMaker Pro could not be lauched because of incorrect installation,
mising system components, or insufficient memory. Please see the
FileMaker Pro documentation."

Admittedly this is a copy I dragged from one partition to another
(original installation was on HFS+, which is inaccessible, so I copied
it to an HFS partition). I wouldn't expect any system level problems.
FMP 4.0 works via the same method, and the same drag and drop method
worked fine when copying FMP 5.5 to my Mac OS X computer.

To prove the point, I ran the FMP 5.5 Classic installer from my CD. It
refused to proceed, saying it requires Mac OS 8.1 or later.

My FMP 6.0 Classic installer says it requires Mac OS 8.6 or later. I
don't really want to install it under Mac OS 9 and then restart in 7.6.1
again to further prove this point.

That may be in reference to older computers and OS versions - you can't
run them on a 68K Mac, or on Mac OS 8.6 or earlier.

I've confirmed that I have Corel Graphics 8 and 4th Dimension 6.5. They
are presently installed on my PowerMac 8600 but I haven't yet dug out
the install CDs.

They are both Classic appliations (not Carbon) so they don't work on an
Intel Mac or on 10.5, but may run on a PowerPC Mac under 10.4 or
earlier, in the Classic environment.

I just tried copying my Mac OS X installation of FMP 7.0v3 to my
PowerMac 8600 (Mac OS 9.1). It doesn't launch. I also can't launch the
installer on the CD.

Mac OS 9.1 sees both the copied application and the installer as a
package but not a valid application.

'The package "FileMaker Pro 7" could not be opened, because it cannot be
used with this version of the Mac OS or there is a problem with it. If
there is a problem with it, try reinstalling the package.'
