I am trying to get the built-in screensaver to show my own images. It worked
briefly once and now it will not recognize my images...I have tried
different types of files (JPEGS and PICTS).

OS 9? Appearance control panel/Desktop tab.
Drag folder of pictures to left image area (smaple screen).
Use jpegs saved by graphicconverter or image viewer, e.g.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

No, sorry OSX Panther.

But I found a workaround at macosxhints.com where you make aliases of the
images you like, put them in a folder, rename the folder's extension to
..slideSaver (making sure that S is capitalized). This acts like a
standalone slideshow like "Cosmos" or "Beach".<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
