Naw, I'd rather make them use their sites while connected via
dial-up.
Also the same for all of the other idiot web site designers that use
flash when a simpler and faster alternative would do.

If there are no ads on a site, adblock should make no difference,
perhaps slow it a bit looking for what is not there ... <g>

The truth is that we are at cross purposes. I am never much
concerned about the speed of sites loading when actually browsing
(I don't do much of this). It is more about launching, about new
windows firing up quickly in testing html files and so on and
Safari is just fast!
But I will do some tests when I have time. Last time I tested
something, you proved right. But my experience with FF and Safari
is a daily one.

Don't you block the main advertising sites like DoubleClick at the
router level?
I like the idea of AdBlock, but not enough to change to Firefox as my
main browser. I just use a user CSS file to block an extra bunch of
advertising. Probably not nearly as good as AdBlock, but enough that web
sites I see often don't annoy me.

Nah. AdBlock Plus does just fine.

Personally, I don't see why anyone wouldn't like Firefox, but to each
his own. : )

In spite of all I have said!
Actually, to make it clear, I love FF. Let me give you an example
of something that is important to me but is unlikely to be
important to most Mac users (because most Mac users do not do my
kind of work):
I have an html file (very simple, just a tiny bit of mark up and
three references in the html to small images of colour blocks) in
Finder. I grab it with the mouse and drop it on the Safari icon
in the Dock. Safari opens the page without me being able to even
count to one sec. I do the same for FF (which is also *already*
open as an app as was Safari) and I can count to 6 before it
displays like Safari.
It is a minor but constant irritation. FF's extensions and web
standard far out weight these things. But they are not nothing!
It would be nice if there was one other being in this universe
who could see this. Do you know how lonely it is to suffer on
one's own?

Here, it's more like:
Safari: 1 second
Firefox: 2.5 seconds
I'm ok with this, to tell you the truth. When I work, I'm usually doing
2-4 things at once. So if I notice a lag anywhere, I click on the next
application I'm working with and do something there until the task is
done. I'm very used to working this way, so small lags in performance
just don't bother me much, because I rarely ever find myself sitting
idle staring at the screen waiting for something to finish.

Like you, I'd love for Firefox to be faster in this area, but I just
don't think this outweighs the other benefits of Firefox over Safari.
It's really about persona preference. I just happen to value Firefox's
features over Safari's simplicity and speed. YMMV.
