Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>printing (more info?)

I just upgraded to Tiger at the same time that I also upgraded from an old
15" powerbook to a new 17". After I used the apple utility of copying over
my apps and docs to the new machine, I found I could not print to any
printer. Somewhere in the Apple help text I read that one should "reset the
printing system," which I now know means "delete all printers in the printer
list and start over." OK fine. Now I've found that while I can add any
printer back to the list I want, only one printer works - my old Xerox
Docuprint N17 networked printer at home. I can't print to any of the newer
snazzier printers at work. I thought at first that it was a work
environment issue, but now I'm not so sure.

At work I have a relatively old networked HP laserjet 5 and a relatively new
Lanier color LD232c. When I add either of these printers using any protocol
(AppleTalk, IPP, LPD, or HP sockets), the printer appears in the printer
list just fine. When I try to print something, in the print dialog the only
button that works is Cancel. There is no response after hitting the print,
preview or PDF buttons.

The only experiment (out of the MANY I conducted) that showed any glimmer of
a hint is when I added the HP laserjet using IPP and the Xerox drivers. In
that case, the print dialog appeared to work, but no data went into the
print queue and nothing printed.

Any thoughts?

-Kevin

Yes. If I'm reading you right, you did a very dirty install. Reinstall
the OS, then your apps, then move your user data across.

In other words... Start again.
