I just got a USB HP 1012 Laser printer ($150.00 @ office Max) and am happy with
it. I have two Macs that I'd like to use it with but neither have Built-In USB
so Printer sharing isn't available that I know of, w/OS 9.1-
Can I just plug both Macs into the printer, using a USB "Y" or small hub?
Or will that create problems or confusions between the two computers, and/or the
printer.
Maybe I could plug in the PC as well. But I Rarely use the PC. Only when I have
too, so I realy don't NEED a printer for it, but I may come in handy some day-
Whatcha' think?

I have seen routers with usb printer support built into them. Perhaps
one of these would work for you.

My single printer is connected to an ethernet print server. Any of the
7 Macs on my ethernet can print to it. But be careful. If you are going
to use AppleTalk for printing, then you need a print server that
supports AppleTalk. The only one I know of is the one sold by Epson.

If the HP has ethernet or can have a directjet ethernet port attached to it,
then I'd put it on the local network and print that way.

Of course, if the directjet port costs close to $150, you might want to just
buy a second printer.

USB cards are cheap, so if two of them cost less than $150 and both machines
have PCI slots available, that's an alternative.
