Reading MS's comments on why, they stated that it would delay the release. (maybe they should have waited. not to mention no automator workflows in Leopard. MS Kinda missed the boat just to get revenue)

Anyways.......

Any word if MS has plans on releasing a version with the VB stuff in it?

Nothing - if they do announce, it will likely be on Mactopia:

Macros and similar power features (solver etc.) are what sets apart Excel from other software packages like Appleworks/iWork which incidently are created for those amongst us who have neither the time nor inclination to really push spreadsheets to the limit. The decision to omit these features from 08 has clearly been taken those at Microsoft who fall into this category of user.

Why would I buy Excel now, if it is simply a glorified chart drawing tool? I can't see what the benefits of upgrading are, I have much more to lose by doing so.

MBU, pull your finger out. Release a VBA/macro/solver/ATP patch (please).
