Post subject: Remote Desktop Connection:mac (BETA) 2 console connection
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>rdc (more info?)

since the previous discussion i found concerning this didn't seem to
address the issue as to whether or not it was possible, and only how
it wasn't "needed" anymore, i'm posting this again.

Is it, or is it not, possible using the RDC Beta 2 client to connect
to the console session on a terminal server (2000 and 2003). If it is
possible, how so?

It seems that the author of "RDC Menu 2.10" has figured it out,
(http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27555) according to
the release notes, but he has not responded to my inquiries. I also
don't want to pay for a whole application that I don't need to get
console access working with the microsoft client when there are other
free alternatives (like CoRD) that will do it just fine.

It also seems that the RDP file format has changed again, to an XML
format instead of a plain text.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

RDC has always been a free product. You're not paying for it.

In RDC 1.0.3 you'd hold down the Command key as you clicked the Connect
button. Have you tried that yet?

Hope this helps!

first thing i tried. i've been using the older RDC for a long time
and knew about that. i was saying that the other product i linked to
apparently has a way of forcing the /console switch even with the new
RDC Beta 2 client. that developer hasn't responded to my e-mail
though as to how it works, and his software costs money. sorry for
the lack of clarity on that part.

if it's not in this version of the software, could the devs (who i
hope read these groups) put that back in, even as a command line
switch or a manual entry in a config file. i understand the need to
not have it for new 2008 servers, but honestly the old servers that DO
support console connections are going to be around for a while, and
not having this functionality sucks.

RDC 2.0 is currently in beta so now is the perfect time to communicate
your bugs to Microsoft. You can do that on Connect
<https://connect.microsoft.com/macrdc>.

The importance of bugs and feature requests on Connect is partially
determined by how many folks respond and add their "me too" to a Connect
report. I suggest that you copy and paste the URL of your specific bug
report into forums such as this so that others are encouraged to visit
Connect and vote.

Because connecting to the Console is such a basic component of RDC I
would imagine it's probably available in RDC 2.0 but just not
discoverable. Ah, here we go... Have a look at someone else's Connect
report about connecting to the Console
<https://connect.microsoft.com/macrdc/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=289948>.

Hope this helps!

This link gives me a 404 error.

I am seeing big black boxes show up on my RDC 2.0b2 windows over time. The only way to fix this is to close the window and reopen the connection. Right now I'm looking at a window which is almost 50% blacked out.

Try again. Still works for me.

Just use "hostname /console" and you're connecting to the console.

the "/console" switch is not working for me. Can anyone else confirm that this works?
I have used it in the connection window like "10.0.0.10/console" and also within a saved .rdp file.

You should be using "10.0.0.10 /console" with a space.

Hope this helps!
