Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>rdc (more info?)

I have a G4 I Mac @ home and am trying to use the Microsoft Remote
Desktop to connect to my work computer which operates on Windows XP.
Our tech at work set up the computer to allow access, so everything
appears to be okay on that end. Here's how he set it up: We go to his
website and through a link he set up, sign in and end up on a screen
with a number of options. He tried it from his computer and is able to
connect with no problems. I downloaded the Remote Desktop and
installed it on my Mac as per the instructions. I can get to the web
site and sign in with no trouble but when I try go to "connect to my
work computer" I get a message saying that I need the Remote Active X
Control to complete the connection and that security settings on my
browser may be preventing the installation of it. I can get my email
with no trouble but can't access the computer. The tech appears to be
unable to help me as he is a Windows person and knows little about
Macs. Something must not be set right on my Mac and being a self
taught computer person, I am at a stand still. Can anyone help me?

The Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client and Remote Web Workspace
(RWW) are two similar but different products.

RWW has limited usability with a Mac and its feature for remote logins
does not work at all with Macs because it is designed with ActiveX, a
technology that has not been implemented for the Mac.

To use RDC from your Mac at home with your Windows computer at work,
you'll need to first make a network connection. This typically involves
using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. Once you're connected
to your work network then you should be able to connect using RDC.

Hope this helps! bill
