Why X11 editors? I like vi. What vi has that most other editors don't
have is line editing.
Suppose I have the following line: "I'd still love to know why you
would rather use X11 text editors" and my cursor was at the front of
the line (column zero).
And suppose I wanted to move my cursor to the X in X11.
The entire instruction is two letters fX.
Starting at the same spot suppose I wanted to remove the word know
with KNOW.
The instruction is eeeeeee~~~~ (end of word 7 times and 4 conversions
to uppercase).
With no quotes here are some other functions.
Top of file : ":0".
Line 545 : ":545"
Bottom of file "G".
What I don't like about most other editors is that line editing
consists of moving the arrow keys. That drives me crazy.
Yes, I've tried BBEdit. And (forgive the spelling I'm not on my Mac
now) Solamon (with the red strawberry doc-icon).
Eclipse with a vi plugin is OK - but I find Eclipse projects hard to
manage. At times I've modified a configuration file and hosed all my
Eclipse stuff. Also, it's a bit of a pain to bring up Eclipse when all
you want to do is create a small text file.
One thing I *really* hate is when you get a dialog box and you have to
designation up or down.
I'd jump ship on vi if I could find a vi like editor that allows
searches on regular expressions.
