Post subject: Safari Won't Access Keychain or Autofill

Having serious problems with Safari and autofill. Using Safari 4.0.4, OS is Snow Leopard 10.6.2 using an iMac. Worked well until a couple of days ago.
Did the following to resolve issue but w/o success.

1. Reset Safari to remove saved names and passwords
2. Reset Safari to remove other AutoFill form texts
3. Under Safari preferences - AutoFill tab, User names and passwords - Did a remove all
4. Using Finder - Removed cache folders used by Safari
5. Repaired Keychain
6. Removed Safari from Apps
7. Downloaded Safari and reinstalled
8. Removed following: com.apple.PubSubAgent.plist, com.apple.Safari.plist, com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist, History.plist, info.nib, Info.plist
9. Reinstalled Snow Leopard and updated as suggested by Apple

Still no success. Autofill won't propagate user id or password. Now it really gets interesting. If I type the first letter of the user id, autofill works, that is, it propagates the user id and password but won't remember it.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks...
