Post subject: Saving
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>excel (more info?)

Some excel documents I was using with 2004 Office for Mac cannot be saved with the new 2008 Office unless I change the name.

I think this might be related to the fact that the spreadsheet is linked by name to another spreadsheet.

If I change the name I can save excel document but now it won’t be linked any longer to another spreadsheet.

Is there a solution to this problem.

Bob:

The information in my original post had some erroneous information. The problem in saving occurs even if the excel document is not linked to another spreadsheet.

I get the following message that I:

Microsoft Excel cannot access the file: and it then lists the file and the file path from my hard drive, to the folder to the document

There are several Reasons:
…The File name or path name does not exist
…The file you’re trying to open is being used by another program and try again
….The name of the workbook you’re trying to save is the same as the name of anotehrr document that if read –only.

Try saving the file workbook with a different name.

HERE IS WHAT I DISCOVERED:

I had a document named: FAIR-INC/MGT FEE that I could not save.

I changed the name to: FAIRMOUNT-INC/MGT FEE and I still could not save.

I then changed the name to FAIRMOUNT-INC MGT FEE and I am able to save.

Is it possible that the "/" in the name is the problem?

Or

Any other ideas as to why the first two names are not allowing me to save.

Thanks.

David
