Spotted: a flight of five F/A-18s in a loose formation on a northerly course
between Whidbey Island and Quimper Penninsula at approximately 3:30 PM PDT.
Flying at about 2,000ft at an estimated 400 knots. When spotted, they were
too far away to make out any details, other than that they were painted a
medium-gray on their upper surfaces.

That is all.

No, but they were flying low enough that I could glimpse the upper fuselages
and vertical surfaces quite well. From that, I took the leap of faith that
the upper surfaces of the horizontal members were similarly colored. Take it
or leave it.

It is kind of cute in a silly, childish, English way.

BTW, how are the kids? Still growing by leaps and bounds, I wager.

Something big and multi-engined flew low over my apartment a few weeks ago,
and I immediately thought of the Fortress, but never got a look at it, so no
confirmation.

Saw a single engined job about a week ago. It was too high and far away to
get an ID on it, but it looked like some kind of early war fighter, possibly
not of US manufacture.

I was skydiving once down at Elsinore and got underflown by a B-17
(Sentimental Journey, from the look of her), a B-24, and a a P-51 (maybe
two, I can't recall) flying in formation at about 2500 ft AGL. The
sound all those engines was soooooo neat...

And then I got to hang out in my chute an watch them fly away.
