Ah yes, I was using a BT MM at work. Here I have a nordinary wheel mouse
and it works with that, too. >> Stay informed about: Spaces - Leopard users: how useful is it? |

Actually, it could-- I keep expecting to be able to start dragging a
window, then press the Spaces shortcut to choose the target workspace.
This would be consistent with the existing ability to start dragging an
icon, then pressing an Exposé shortcut (or just Cmd-Tab) to select the
target window. But it doesn't work with Spaces.
That said, I'm not missing VirtueDesktops as much as I thought I would. >> Stay informed about: Spaces - Leopard users: how useful is it? |

Yes, it does. And you don't even need to drag; just click and hold.

New with Leopard, is that? It doesn't work for me in Tiger, but I've
got Logitech drivers installed that might break stuff like that. If
it's not a Tiger feature I won't try and fix it! It'd be very useful.

This posting should have been response to the opening posting in this thread,
but for reasons unbeknownst I can't see or respond to that one but I can to
the some (at this moment) forty-two other postings in the thread. Who knows.
In the last few weeks I've become somewhat of a Spaces freak in that I'm now
at the point of wondering how I got along without it!
I'll admit to being a compulsive desktop neatnik, having no icons on my
desktop, and having a dock which permanently contains only icons for Finder,
Spaces, System Preferences, Time Machine and Trash. Depending on what I am
doing there will be icons for currently active tasks and documents.
What I really like about spaces is that for me each of the views contains
only the open windows of things relative to a particular application, thus
allowing me to have a number of applications concurrently open without
causing a mish-mash of windows to clutter the desktop.
Yes, it did take a bit of getting used to. But I'll state that before I dive
in with criticisms of a feature I'll give myself a chance to become
accustomed to it. So it is with Spaces--a feature I can't imagine now being
without!

Certainly doesn't work here, then. Wonder what the secret is. >> Stay informed about: Spaces - Leopard users: how useful is it? |

It works for me -- just drag a window to the edge of the screen and it
jumps to the next "space." You have to hold it for a about a second. It
won't "cycle" though -- it stops when it gets to the last space, but
then you can go the other way. I have my spaces reduced to four in a
horizontal row, so I can't test if it works by dragging down.
This is 10.5.1.

That's a different shortcut. What I'm talking about is the following:
1) Click and hold on the title bar of a window. There is
no need to drag it anywhere.
2) While holding the mouse button down, press a Spaces
shortcut such as ctrl-2, or ctrl-right arrow.
3) You will find yourself in the new space, but with the
window you were holding now moved to that space.
This is also 10.5.1.

That works too, although your step number 2 is a bit difficult for a guy
like me with no particular dexterity (or sinisterity either, I guess).

Let's summarize all the methods for moving a window to another space.
1) Click and hold on a title bar, and press a spaces shortcut
such as ctrl-2 or ctrl-right arrow. No dragging is involved
here. The window stays put, and the spaces move behind it.
2) Drag a window to the edge of the screen. After a second
or two, the drag will continue into the new space, assuming
you have one configured in that direction.
3) Use F8 to make all the spaces appear at once. Then you
can drag a (tiny) window from one space to another.
Sounds like you were trying to use method #3, but in that case you need
to start dragging *after* you press F8, not before.

Sounds like it... so like I said in the first place, it's just
annoyingly inconsistent with Exposé, where I can start dragging Finder
icons or text selections before pressing F9, F10 or F11. >> Stay informed about: Spaces - Leopard users: how useful is it? |
