Post subject: StarMax Assistance Needed
Archived from groups: alt>mac (more info?)

I have a StarMax Mac clone. It runs about 120MHz and does pretty much
anything that I want to do with it.

I have a broadband connection that I use with my PCs and want to
connect the StarMax to this, as well. To do this I need to install
either an ethernet card (10BaseT minimum) or a USB card.

This model StarMax was built on a modified PC AT motherboard. Will PC
cards work in this system? If not, are there cards available to
install that will give me either capability?

I would prefer ethernet to USB, but I can go either way. Any help
will be appreciated.

BTW, save any flames about PC vs Mac. I work both platforms and don't
really care if anyone else disagrees with my choices.

Replies may be here or via email at orgpsych RemoveThis @bellsouth.net.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I used to have a StarMax 3000 desktop and was able to add a PCI Ethernet
adapter... the trick is you need one with (classic OS) Mac drivers.

It's been a long time since I had mine, so I can't tell you off hand the
make/model... but a quick search on Google for "PCI Ethernet Mac
drivers" got lots of hits, including (for example):

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-Details&prod=117&sit" target="_blank">http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-Details&prod=117&sit</a>
e=c

for the SMC SMC1255TX

Pretty much any PCI Ethernet card should work-- AS LONG AS THERE ARE MAC
DRIVERS AVAILABLE. (For 'Classic' Mac OS, not OS X!)

Also a former starmax 3000 owner - I bought a MacAlly ethernet card
that worked just fine. I have no idea if they are still in business
but a search may turn one up. It came with OS9 driver of course (i'm
sure i have the driver archived somewhere).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
