There is no Works for Mac (anymore).

I've not found anything that will open Works on the mac, but I haven't
checked recently (tested Pages, NeoOffice, and AbiWord, I think) You
can also purchase a conversion program--see the list of supported formats
http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/index.html
http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/mlp_xlators.html

Couple pieces of general advice:

--it's better to start a new thread than post on an existing one,
ESPECIALLY when you have a new problem
--don't spend money largely for one feature without checking to make
sure it exists first.

I am about to purchase Office 08 for Mac but I am confused about the Entourage differences in the Home/Student vs. Standard editions. Could someone tell me if the functionality is the same(ei: storing emails in folders, attaching documents, contacts info, etc.).<br>

All of the functions you mentioned are the same.

The Home & Student version does not contain Exchange support or Automator
Actions. Some university students need exchange to connect for their school
mail. Please contact your school to see what's needed or what package they
can offer you.

Boy, is Office 2008 buggy. It'll crash repeatedly when I'm working on a doc. (Do a search for Word 2008 crash to see all the discussion). Wow, can't Microsoft make a decent product>

You can enable Sync Services for contacts only; just leave the other
checkboxes unchecked. Alternatively, launch Address Book, select all your
contacts and drag them to the desktop. Drag the resulting .vcf file into
Entourage's contact list.

It doesn't crash for me. Hasn't crashed since I got it.

So if you would like us to help you solve the issues, please describe things
in a bit more detail.

It's not "perfect", no product is, but it is actually a lot more stable than
it appears to be for you.

Cheers

I notice that 2008 Office does not have scissors, for quick removal of text and re-insertion. How is this to be done on this new system?<br>

Three different options:

You can use Edit | Cut and Edit | Paste

You can use the keyboard shortcut command-X to cut and command-V to paste.

You can add the Cut command to your toolbar via View | Customize Toolbars.

By the way, it's better to post an entirely new question than to add
random posts to an existing thread. If this were an independent thread,
your Q&A would become part of the archives and perhaps help someone
searching later.

There are a couple of ways:

* click on Edit>Cut and Edit>Paste
* use the keyboard shortcuts Cmd+x for Cut and Cmd+v for paste
* ctrl-/right-click the toolbar in Word and choose Customise Toolbars and
Menus. In the new window, click on the Commands tab, select Edit from the
list and drag the icons for Cut, Copy and Paste back into the Standard
toolbar.

Hello All:<br>
I received my copy of Home & Student Edition today from the Super Suite Deal. Will the Microsoft Expression Media be shipped separately? I double-checked the order form, and it says under order fulfillment (if you choose Option Two) that it includes Office 2008 H&S edition + Microsoft Expression Media for Mac. I haven't been able to find any info about the Media package though.<br>
Thanks!

You need to complain to the contact information on the order form or the
package--a few people are seeing that, and one posted here that they had
been told it was a mistake, as it is.

I try to launch Excel and the same problem, a window of error appears indicating " recover my work and restart Microsoft Excel".<br>
I reinstall Office, after having deleted completely the file Office with the application " Remove ". I always have the same problems!<br>
I use a Macbook Pro with the system Leopard macOSX 10.5.1.<br>

Pardon the redundancy, but I'm stumped. How do I know if I need the standard version w/ MS Exchange support? Can I get by w/ a Home & Student version? The sftware will be installed on one machine, and will be used in a small business.<br>
<br>
Thanks, friends!

Great!

Currently, the Mactopia site is broken for this function. "Registration" has
nothing to do with the operation of the software - unlike the Activation
required for MS Windows software. It's little more than a marketing tool.

Registration is not required (The Entourage Help Blog)
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008/02/registration_is_not_required.html>

Until one of the Word or Excel experts chime in, I suggest testing Office in
a new User. This will help identify if the problem is in your User's folder
of it it's system wide.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

If you had Office installed prior to Office 2008, you might try deleting
these files:

Word 2008 "crash on launch" issue - in your User's preferences folder -->
Microsoft folder:

Remove: Word Settings (10) file, but also by the Word Settings (9) and (8)
files.

From "guest account "OfficeMac2008" applications (word, excel, ppt, …) run normally.<br>
But does not still work from the "main user"!…<br>
Thanks,<br>
