I gave my girlfriend my old iBook G4 to use for school projects but she has a problem with Thai support in all the Office 2004 Apps. She complains that the lines do not wrap correctly. In Thai, there is no space between words.<br>

She also complains that when she views documents that she created on the Mac on a windows PC, the formatting is all screwed up. This I think is still related to the Thai issue.

Yes, it is. Thai is not one of the languages available for Office 2004. It
*is* available in Windows Office.

There's only one solution here: you're just going to have to take that
computer back, and give her your new one.

Oh: She already explained that to you, right? :-)

Sorry: there is no "good" solution.

Not from Microsoft anyway, but they are not the only game in town. I recommend Pages which is part of iWork 8, and costs only $79. it, like TextEdit, Apple mail, and any other app that accesses OS x's built-in dictionaries, will have no problem wrapping Thai text correctly on a Mac.

Pages is a good low-end solution, but it doesn't have the functionality a
student needs.

Eh, I don't know. My students could use it without a problem, but all I
demand is the ability to do footnotes, and maybe the occasional table.
They do have to know how to Export a Pages file to Word. I wouldn't
write a phd dissertation in it, though.

I don't know too many students using complex features in Word, in general.

Yeah: I was thinking how sulphurous my ex-boss Dr. Guenter Plum, who edits
PhD theses for a living, would get if he were asked to do it in Pages :-)

What is it with you crabby old academics? You are worse than Technical
Writers....
