old, interesting apple videos - worth a look ---

FA: extremely rare apple videos - a peek into apple thinking in the mid 80's - you've never seen these before... the below link is good until tuesday, Jan-27th 2004 6pm PST

Uploading videos from local hard drive - I just bought a new 30GB iPod and I have been having problems with uploading videos from my hard drive to the iPod. I still have a slightly older 20GB so I am pretty well informed and capable in iTunes. I guess what I am trying to ask is how to upload..

Uploading photos to a no-name digital picture frame - I bought a couple of digital frames off Zazz [1] last year. It turns out they don't appear as volumes when plugging them into a Mac via USB. They do register in System Profiler as In the box was some custom..

TV on a Laptop? - What's the way to get TV on a laptop? an for a cable TV hookup. Thanks, -- Dave C

The Air's page on Apple is at
http://www.apple.com/macbookair/

The Apple staff description reminded me of the old original Mac - the
staffer said all the stuff is welded on (I guess he meant soldered), so
you can't open it up and add anything (this is what I understood him to
say to someone, so [a] he may have been wrong and/or [b] I may have
heard wrong.)

No FireWire, USB 2, WiFi, BlueTooth. I think Apple expects your major
connection to be through WiFi - the ports are not readily accessible
because of the thinness of the laptop.

The Web site says it's from 0.16 to 0.76 inch think, three pounds, and
a 13.3 inch screen. My EEE pc is abount an inch and seven-eights at its
thickest, 2 pounds, and a 7 inch screen. For my needs, the EEE is more
portable. Both the Air and the EEE make compromises, and for my needs,
I'll stick with the EEE, as I can carry it more easily. Your mileage
will vary. I'll be interested in seeing what uses the new owners of the
Air make of it, but it's not aimed at me. I prefer the much smaller EEE
for portability.

An interesting thing is that it comes with software to allow you to
use the optical drive in your Mac or PC.

Any word on if and when this software will be available for the rest of us?

See http://www.apple.com/macbookair/wireless.html for information on
the program.

Unfortunately no info about if or when this will be released to non Air
book users, just the blurb about how to enable remote machines for the
Air book to access them, I want to be able to install this on my Pismo
so I can share the DVD drive on my MDD, this presumably will require
both client and server utils (unless the client part is built into the
firmware of the Air book, then I am stuffed).
Hopefully if Apple don't release this soon some 3rd party utility will
be released to do this.
Ben.
