The Air's page on Apple is at
http://www.apple.com/macbookair/
The Apple staff description reminded me of the old original Mac - the
staffer said all the stuff is welded on (I guess he meant soldered), so
you can't open it up and add anything (this is what I understood him to
say to someone, so [a] he may have been wrong and/or [b] I may have
heard wrong.)
No FireWire, USB 2, WiFi, BlueTooth. I think Apple expects your major
connection to be through WiFi - the ports are not readily accessible
because of the thinness of the laptop.
The Web site says it's from 0.16 to 0.76 inch think, three pounds, and
a 13.3 inch screen. My EEE pc is abount an inch and seven-eights at its
thickest, 2 pounds, and a 7 inch screen. For my needs, the EEE is more
portable. Both the Air and the EEE make compromises, and for my needs,
I'll stick with the EEE, as I can carry it more easily. Your mileage
will vary. I'll be interested in seeing what uses the new owners of the
Air make of it, but it's not aimed at me. I prefer the much smaller EEE
for portability.
