DHCP lease time is set on DHCP server by its administrator. You can
only force renew DHCP lease sooner than is setup on the server but you
cannot prolong it on the client side. Of coarse there is reason why
lease time is set. There is usually set of IP addresses which are
dedicated to DHCP and it is considered than no more that that amount
of computers is connected to the network in particular time. So to
avoid that all IP are used and no one left they are renew on regular
time basis. On the other hand it make no sense to renew very often, to
save resources there is usually considerable interval set. 15 days
seems too long.
If you want to have same IP each time you can ask (or configure
yourself if you have access) DHCP server administrator to reserve you
same IP using for example your MAC address from your NIC card. By this
if renew comes you still get same IP and nobody else got that IP if
your box will be off line. Or you can configure client not use DHCP
and get static IP from your network administrator.
Cheers

It expires to allow network devices to come and go without running out
of assignments.
Is the DHCP server on your LAN or your ISP? If it's on your LAN, just
use DHCP with a fixed address. Your LAN equipment shouldn't mind it.
The only way to get a fixed address from your ISP is to buy one from
them.

Of course it doesn't support it. I set it to 9999 days.

Well surely you didn't expect us to somehow know that, right? ; )

I wonder - do most or all routers have mandatory DHCP timeouts like
this? My Netgear WPN824v2 doesn't seem to have *any* DHCP lease
expiration settings.

I found no such setting in any of the web pages of the user interface.
Then I searched the reference manual for "lease" and found no such
setting there either. I suppose this is a "very weird" router then! :

No, I figued you had me on emulation through Usenet... ;-) Thanks for
te tip, and I tried it, and of course, my modem doesn't support it, as
in, I would be so lucky that it supports it, eh?

Don't know, but both the Linksys WRG45 (or whatever) and this
particulare AEBS do have Lease Renewal.

My Dlink DGL4300 defaults to 1440 minutes.

Next time I'm in the market, I'm going to give Apple's router serious
consideration. Last time I looked (before the Airport Extreme was
announced), there were some things lacking that broke the deal for me.
