What's the best way (assuming there is a way) to transfer files, prefs,
etc. from my old iBook to my new iBook?

I tried Target Disk Mode and dragging and dropping folders; it seemed to
work well for documents, Safari, Explorer, (all my prefs and bookmarks
transferred that way), but it did not work for Mail (via dragging and
replacing the Mail folder in the User library). Alternate accounts
didn't transfer; I don't care for Import, because it just sticks
everything into Import folders rather than with their active account
folders as they are on the old ibook. Any tips?

Thanks,
Rog

Dragging and dropping doesn't work for OS X programs. The transfer
issue is covered at Apple if you have one of the newer iBooks.

You can use target disk mode and use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer.

If you want many, many ideas on this task, google the newsgroups -
there have been plenty of threads on this - I'd say close to one each
day.
