There is one more kind of backup - vital for cases when your hardware
goes down - and that's duplicating what you need on a working
computer. Many vital services are set up to switch data centers at
a moment's notice.
Personal computers aren't well set up for this - too much software is
tied into the particular computer's set-up. But I'd love to
automatically synchronize between a lap-top and a desktop computer -
even to the extent of having high scores in a game (well, since I'm
not much of a gamer - play counts in my iTunes).
Apple could do well in beating Microsoft in the marketplace to gain
customers' confidence in such a system.
Of course, we still need Time Machine ability to recover deleted data.
