Hello,
I am trying to burn a backup copy on my ibook of my system 9.1 CD as it
is getting scratched. I copied the files on the 9.1 CD to a folder on
the ibook, insert a new CD, then drag the files to be copied to the CD.
When I drag the CD to the trash a burn takes place.
However, when the CD is finished, it does not boot my powerbook 3400,
while the original does.
What am I doing wrong and how do I make a backup?
Thanks.

In short, you have to designate the CD as bootable. The Finder can't do
that. m.

If you have Toast 5 or 6 do a copy disk, it will copy all the contents
of the disk to a disk image and then burn it to a blank CD or DVD.

I made a backup copy of my Ti Powerbook restore DVD this way and it's
bootable.

You can also use Apple's Disk Copy utility to make a disk image of a CD
and then burn the image back out to a blank CD. I posted a PDF from a
class I recently gave at our local Mac usergroup. I think you can do
the same thing using the Disk Copy utility under OS 9, but it's been so
long since I've messed with OS 9 that things are getting very fuzzy.

I seem to remember having to do this with Toast and digging for a check box
that would make the CD a startup disk. By default, they are not.
