Is your keyboard layout in French? There's a bug in Word 2008 that
automatically matches your keyboard layout language with the spell check /
AutoCorrect language. There is currently no permanent solution to this
problem, so you'll need to change the language on a per-case basis. To do
this, start typing some text in Word, then click on Edit>Select All (or hit
Cmd+A), go to Tools>Language and choose English, which makes the setting
stick for that particular document. It is very annoying, but Microsoft is
aware of the issue, and who knows, perhaps we might see it get fixed in a
future update.
