eBooks, eFormKits and eGuides in Preview?

Does anybody know if you can read eBooks, eFormKits and eGuides in
Preview? The following webpage mentions only Acrobat Reader, Word 5.0 or
greater, or WordPerfect 2.1 or greater for the Mac.

I threw away Acrobat Reader in favor of Preview. I know if it's a
straight PDF there is no problem. If it is the locked PDF, then I don't
know. Does the following warning mean the PDF is customized to the
computer when the PDF is unzipped, or when the PDF is read by Acrobat
Reader?
