Errmmm...
I *THINK* 7.01 is too early to include the various CD access drivers.
Seems to me that the Apple "CDSC 300" external SCSI CD-ROM drive (The
first CD-ROM aimed at the Mac that I know about) first showed up at
about the same time that 7.1 or 7.5.0 was released, but my memory is
hazy that far back.

You may have no option but to jump to a newer OS to get the drivers.
7.5.5 is possible on the 140 (170 is just a 140 with a 25MHz procesor
instead of a 16Mhz processor) and can be downloaded from the Apple
website. It's a little bit doggy on my 140, but it's within the realm of
usable.

You're going to need the Apple CD-ROM drivers, which I think are still
available from the Apple downloads site (they might be a bit hard to
find -- look for "Older Software").

Note too that Apple's CD drivers (with a couple of exceptions) won't
operate a non-Apple mechanism -- for that, you're going to need Toast Cd
Reader, as well as the Apple CD-ROM software.
