Sherlock in OS8/9 replaced the Find File program from OS 7, which I think is
back (more or less) in OS X.
It doesn't really matter, however. Hitting command-F (equivalent to
apple-F) while in the Finder will bring up whatever program they should use
to search their hard drive, whether that is Sherlock or Find File.
I don't know Java, so presumably you already know what filename to tell them
to look for. If version number is not apparent, selecting the icon and
hitting command-I (aka Get Info) will produce a information dialog with
exact version number.
