Hi,

I am not sure if I am asking the right people but I am wondering how to find which Java version we have on our Mac computers (OS 8, OS 9, and OS X). I know on PCs, you can type "wjview" on the command line and it displays the JVM built number. I am just wondering if there is an easy way to tell my students how to find which Java version (MRJ) they have on their computer. I had them do Sherlock search but some students with OSX can't do Sherlock search for their hard drive. So, I need to write two different directions for OS 9 users and OS X users. If you can help me on that, it'll be appreciated.

Mr. Baker

Sherlock in OS8/9 replaced the Find File program from OS 7, which I think is
back (more or less) in OS X.

It doesn't really matter, however. Hitting command-F (equivalent to
apple-F) while in the Finder will bring up whatever program they should use
to search their hard drive, whether that is Sherlock or Find File.

I don't know Java, so presumably you already know what filename to tell them
to look for. If version number is not apparent, selecting the icon and
hitting command-I (aka Get Info) will produce a information dialog with
exact version number.
