I am setting up a security camera which will be connected to the g4 via
Canopus 100 system. I will be recording for 30 minutes at a time. Can anyone
tell me how big that file will be and hat I can do it to save it to a CD of
DVD-Rom disk.

If you save it as a DV Movie file, it will be about 6.6 gigabytes - so
you need almost 7 CD's. DV is rougly 3.7 megabytes per second.

You'll need to compress the DV down a more if you plan on doing this a
lot. Probalby PhotoJpeg at sat medium or low quality would do the job -
but you will lose soem video quality.

You may want to look at something like Ben Bird's Security Spy which
will let you capture video only when certain trigger events happen.
