I just inherited an hp Laserjet 5L, which has a parallel cable. I want
to run it from my iMac, OS 10.4.11. I can buy a parallel-to-USB adaptor
cable for about $13. Is this printer worth the effort (and the $13!)?
I just need it for presentable document printing, no high-end graphics, etc.

Same situation at home, a IBM 3116 with parallel port worked fine with
OS X 10.4.n an now with Tiger. It just needs a certain usb cable and
refuses others ones, I dont know why.

First check if there is a driver available.

Yes, always better than an ink jet.
