I can confirm that both contacts and address book entries are syncing just
fine with my iPhone in both directions via Sync Services and iTunes. This is
something that was fixed with 12.0.1 (the latest update) to be fair, and in
12.0.0 was just far too buggy to even think of using it.
Of course, in June when Exchange ActiveSync becomes available for the
iPhone, this should become even more transparent.
This is essentially the problem with the Blackberry, IMHO... I've supported
many corporate environments who use Blackberry devices, and while it's a
fantastic device for somebody with an Exchange server on the back-end, it's
really NOT very good as a standalone device even at the best of times. If
you *do* have an Exchange server on the back-end, you shouldn't need to
worry about a cabled sync for the most part, as your data will be pushed
wireless from your Exchange server via the Blackberry Enterprise Server. If
you don't, then you should probably give up the Blackberry and look at
something else, since even IMAP-based e-mail (via BIS) on the Blackberry is
really weak compared to most other smartphone solutions out there.
The only real limitation to using a Blackberry with Entourage is that you
won't get tasks or notes without a cabled sync, since Entourage *STILL*
doesn't sync them to the Exchange server (sigh).

Another iCal-Exchange problem that I haven't seen in the thread (sorry if I missed it, it is quite long!)
Syncing Entourage and iCal Works absolutely perfectly for me, EXCEPT that when I erase an appointment from Entourage, it is not erased in iCal. However a change of schedule for an event in Entourage induces the corresponding modification in iCal. Moreover, if I erase an event from iCal, this is correctly synced to Exchange(i;e; it is erased in Exchange)
To summarize, erasing an event in Entourage is not synced to iCal, everything else syncs perfectly.
Any hints?

Sounds like this bug "calendar events don't show up
in iCal" reported here:
<http://tinyurl.com/36fs5m>
<quote>
As promised by Apple, 10.5.2 fixes the notorious Leopard iCal bug
present in 10.5 and 10.5.1. Unfortunately that bug was replaced by a
new bug with nearly identical symptoms: calendar events don't show up
in iCal. I've reported this to Apple and they responded that it's a
known bug that they're working on. Of course, they weren't able to
provide a time frame for a fix. As with the last bug, this procedure
can provide temporary relief and cause the events to show up in iCal
immediately:
* Quit out of iCal if it's open
* Delete this file:
~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
(~ refers to your home directory.)
* Open iCal
* Wait a minute or two until it finishes "Upgrading Calendars"
Unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone. YMMV.

Thank you Diane
I have tried erasing ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
It has generated duplicates which I got rid off, but unfortunately it hasn't solved the problem. I guess I have to wait for Apple to fix their bugs!

Greetings. I get duplicates (in both Entourage 2008 and iCal) when using the "merge" option in Sync Services. This is so annoying.
Also, this one time, Sync Services quit on me and I found the entire calendar empty (again in both Entourage and iCal), had to recover from Time Machine. >> Stay informed about: iCal sync does not work in Entourage 2008 |

Solution!
Not sure if others have tried this, but I just discovered PocketMac this weekend. They have a version built for Entourage 2008, it basically "syncs" Entourage to iCal and Address Book. Then you use iSync to sync to your device (phone in my case).
Really it does what Entourage theoretically has built in, but I could never get it working until I used this. No connection or anything, just wanted to let others know something that worked for me! >> Stay informed about: iCal sync does not work in Entourage 2008 |

I somehow in some mysterious way after many many tries had Entourage synced to iCal but of course in some way that ended. I ended up with hundreds of identical entries and finally ended up taking days to delete these entries as they were slowing my Mac to a crawl. Once i did that i closed Entourage and have never opened it up again. I use iCal exclusively now which syncs with my iPhone and the 10.5 OS has improved iCal and the syncing functions so that the few advantages that Entourage had are gone. I came here to see if Office 2008 had anything to offer since they have had years to make it work and found that I would be insane to buy Office 2008 anticipating the use of Entourage. I am happy and at peace. FIRST RULE OF THUMB - AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE THE USE OF MICROSOFT PRODUCTS. >> Stay informed about: iCal sync does not work in Entourage 2008 |

As far as I know Microsoft is working on a fix but who knows when it
will be fully fixed. I found a workaround that works (see posts). >> Stay informed about: iCal sync does not work in Entourage 2008 |

Sync works by syncing to a file called the Truth. The applications do not
sync with other applications but to the truth.
Apple's iCal, Address Book, iSync, .Mac, Microsoft Entourage, and any other
application hooked into Sync Services syncs their items with what is known
as the Sync Services Truth. When a new event is added in Entourage, it goes
to the Truth. When a new event is added to iCal, it goes to the Truth. When
iSync needs to know what events need to be added to a device, it asks the
Truth. The Truth knows all :).

I have purchased pocketmac and it is possible to switch between ical and entourage through synchronise sync. So far so good. I didn't succeeded to synchronize calendars so that they only take changes from one another. Now is the stacking of information on each other. If you are not careful, you are 10 times a day birthday. Syncing was working great for me with Office 2004. 2008 is a trainwreck. I've completely deleted and re-imported my contacts several times, and for whatever reason, Entourage duplicates each contact over a period of time. I have 12 duplicates per person.
A new problem I encountered this weekend: Calendar entries disappear, which as you can imagine, completely defeats the purpose of using a calendar. I am really frustrated that I paid for an upgrade that is essentially a step backwards. >> Stay informed about: iCal sync does not work in Entourage 2008 |
