I think you will find that that applies to most LCD displays, they are
limited to a lower range of colours than CRT monitors, that is because
they only have 6 bits per colour rather than the full 8 bits, however
they get round this by dithering to simulate the full range of colours.
That is why most high end graphics work is still done using CRT monitors.
It may well be the case that the top of the range displays are now true
8 bit, also the colour gamut is supposed to be better with LED
backlights as opposed to VF backlights.
