Post subject: iTunes Listings
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>apps (more info?)

Being an on-again/off-again reader of this group I'm sure this subject
has been asked and answered several times over but I missed it. Sorry
for the repetition:

Is there a way to 'batch change' the Name, Artist, Album, or Composer
entry (entries) of listings in the Music Library. For example, each time
I purchase or download an album or piece of music by the composer
Shostakovich, it is listed differently: Dimitri Shostakovich, or
Shostakovich, Dimitri, or maybe Shostokovitch (etc). I would greatly
appreciate listing them under the same name.

I have nearly all his symphonies, piano and violin music but they're
scattered in at least 5 different places within the library when I list
under the heading of "composer". I have already created playlists and
folders which separate and sort my music -- but I'm a bit of the
compulsive / librarian type.

Thank you ahead of time...

sure. just select all the songs that you want to change, then do a
cmd-i (get info) and change the fields you want.

For simple batch changes iTunes is the way to go. With 4500 it might
be easier in orther ways. There is a great little program, Media Rage,
which use to be MP3 rage. It lets one perform all kinds of functions
on mp3's, with id3 tabs being the most noteworthy.

'Tis done! Thanks!

BTW - I like your Bart/Homer Quote. any idea (my compulsive nature
coming back again) where it comes from, or when?

What I do is select them all, right-click, get info, then change the
entry. With a complex selection, you might want to create a smart
playlist to catch them all.

Not only that, but my computer has learned to fill in common ones with a
small prompt. I don't have to get past Joh before Bach's whole name is
there 8-)
