iTunes: Can't burn CD

This is a fairly new problem for me with iTunes 6. Previously I was
able to burn CDs from playlists with no problem.

I select a Playlist, click the Burn Disc button, am instructed to
insert blank disc, I get message Checking Media....and the disc starts
to whir, then instead of proceeding ahead with the burn, an iTunes
message window says "You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the
pop-up menu or click Ignore." No matter what I do from that point on,
iTunes will not burn the CD.

For a while I was able to restart iTunes and have success, but for my
last many tries, the description above is what happens.

I use Taiyo-Yuden printable blank CDs.
