I can only boot from software install disk or nortons. Neither can
find my hard drive to repair or even do a new install. Just no sign of
the hard drive anywhere. Is there anything I can do ? Thanks for any
suggestions.

I'd give Disk Warrior a try.

First order of business there is to reset the power manager. How to do
that depends on what model iBook you've got.

they all default to going into a toilet. However, a person can redirect his
"standard output" to somewhere else, if he so chooses. - Jeremy Nixon<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
