Sounds like there's a corrupted message waiting to be sent. When you launch
the program, check the 'Out' box for any messages sitting in there - if you
find one, move or delete it.

Have you tried increasing the memory allocation to Explorer? You can do this
by selecting the application icon in the Finder, pressing 'Command
(otherwise known as the Apple key) - I' and then pulling the dropdown menu
to select the 'Memory' section. Increasing the current memory allocation by
15-20% may help.
Remember that updating to Internet Explorer 5.1.7 and Mac OS 9.2.2 (if you
haven't already) is highly recommended.
