Well I replaced the HD in my G3 PB and have it initialized. How do I get the
OS to install? I do have the CD's but something isn't doing it's thing here.
Any help?
Thanks

Well, I may have panicked somewhat. I'm a PC guy and my daughter has this G3
PB with a bad HD. Changed it out and got it to initialize and I think I may
have the OS loading right now. Somewhat different from the MS OS I'm used
to.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

JEP-

You should hold down the C key when starting up, so the computer will boot from
the install CD.

Some PB G3 models require you to partition the HD if you're installing OS X.
My old Wallstreet PB G3 requires that OS X be installed on the "first"
partition, and that the partition be less than 8 MB. If your HD image in the
installation window has a green arrow, then you don't have that problem.

If you want to be able to boot under OS 9 as well as OS X, then the HD's
initialization must have the OS 9 driver checked.

I realize this may not make sense, but perhaps it will correlate with what you
are seeing.

Since I just did this today, here's what worked:
<New HD installed>
open CD with clip & insert installer disk 1
Press C and power-on. iBook boots from CD
Installer runs, won't find disk. But it can launch disk utility via a
menu item.
So, launch Disk Utility & format HD (Mac HFS+ (Journalled)). Don't
forget the OS 9 drivers.
After that, Installer sees disk but says you can't install onto it.
Reboot (with C again, i.e. from CD)
Now the installer works normally.
If you want Classic you'll need it from somewhere (I just copied my old
System Folder) & then configure the OS 9 Prefs panel

Ahhh... another reason why Macs are so much easier to work with vs. PC's.
they just work.
