iphone or i touch instead of laptop for e-mail

Is anyone traveling using i phone or itouch instead of a laptop for email?
What do you think? I've never had either and am about to jump in. I would
think a laptop would be hugely easier to deal with, but I'm open to opinon.

It depends on how you connect to the mail service. Mail sent through my Mobile Me (.mac) account work directly. For email, I have to go through the web rather than either POP or IMAP. That is because my ISO does not allow connections to their mail servers from outside the network.
