What is the name of the next big cat?

So we've had Cheetah, Puma, Tiger, Leopard, Jaguar, Panther

I guess that leaves:

Lion, cougar

- Isn't the tIger the biggest of the cats? Perhaps that should have
come last.

Leopard is barely six months old. They're not announcing it's
successor for at least another year.

Liger is the biggest cat:

There are some very messed up people in this world. Who would think
it's a good idea to mate a lion with a tiger? Jeez.

I bet someone out there has tried everything:

- Rhino + Hippo
- Frog + Toad
- Hare + Rabbit
- Tiger + Domestic cat

I wouldn't have thought that the off-spring would be viable when two
distict species are bought together.

On the subject of tigers vs lions: tigers are not only bigger but they
look prettier.

Scientific curiosity, you know.
Antway, long ago, before humans interfered
the occasional liger (and tiglon) may have been borne.
Originally the habitats of lions and tigers did overlap.
(there are still some native lions in India)

All cat species can be crossed, if you really try.

You are way to naive in your ideas about biology.
As for the big cats:
some of the hybrids have been crossed back succesfully.
The idea that hybrids -must- be sterile
is a naive overgeneralization from one example.

Which kind of lion, and which kind of tiger?

There are quite a few examples of hybrids that are mostly sterile.
More experimenting has been done with plants than with animals.

Very rarely a mule and in at least one case a hinny has born young.

Some cross breeding can save a species from dying out altogether. Of
the cats, cheetahs are the least genetically diverse and might need
some help to survive.

In theory (like in a test tube) could a monkey and man be 'mixed'. I
don't think it would work. Otherwise we'd have half-human men swinging
from trees and stuff.

That sure helps, but it isn't absolutely necessary.
When a chromosome breaks (or two join) the pieces will pair with the
corresponding half of the whole. (if still possible)

In kindergarten biology, sure.
Reality is more complicated than that.

That a monkey and a man could be mixed has been proven--just take a look at
