I'm a long-time linux user, and I've just bought my wife our first Mac.
"Plug it in and it works.", I believe was the selling point; you
aren't supposed to have to screw with it; just use it. Plus it's real
purdy.
Anyhow, she's got an Ipod. I've copied our music collection over from
the slackware box (thank you, netatalk developers), and installed the
ogg-vorbis plugin on the mac for itunes.
After importing the .ogg files into itunes, I selected them all and
chose "Advanced...Convert selection to aac". This is in order to put
the files onto her ipod. We went to bed.
Next morning, I find that one of the files has failed to convert. I
find the failed file, and delete it. I would like to continue where I
left off, but I don't see any good way to tell "where I left off". So,
I start over.
How do I tell itunes to skip and log error rather than abort the whole
batch conversion?
Is there a different utility I can use to convert these files from .ogg
to .m4a for use in the ipod (and retain the tag info)? Where might I
find that utility? I have access to linux, windows, or osx machines to
run such an app on.
While I find it somewhat frustrating, my wife absolutely LOVES her mac.
She's doing stuff that she just could not accomplish under windows or
linux. Just because OSX and the apps are so well *designed*, laid out,
and intuitive. These days, when she asks me how to do something on the
computer, I just tell her "it's in there; look around and you'll figure
it out". She's fearless, and by the time I get home, she's got it.
Oh, yeah--expose RULES!
