My aunt has OS9 and Communicator 4.8 with Bellsouth DSL. She gets
a javascript error when she tries to log onto her Bellsouth
webmail. Bellsouth support can't figure it out.
I also have OS9 and Communicator 4.8. Connected through Bellsouth
DSL, I can log onto her webmail account without trouble. What
could be causing her javascript problem? >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

Does she have javascript enabled in 4.8? >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

Yes, on the phone I asked her to check.
On my end, I tried accessing the webmail with javascript disabled.
It did not produce a javascript error message.
I'm almost certain she has Communicator 4.8. If not, it's 4.7x. >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

She phoned as I was reading this. She said when she typed in
"javascript" it came back with a lot of problems. She will try it
again and write them down.

With Communicator 4.8, I need javascript enabled to go to the page
in question. It works for me but not her.

Mine says only 4.8 under Get Info and About Communicator. So does hers.

In About This Computer, mine says Mac OS 9.1. So does hers. In
each case, VM is 129 M.

I think that's why there's only one version of Communicator 4.8.
Changing Preferred Memory doesn't help. I wonder what files
javascript uses. >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

She says it's a long message and she hasn't written it down. The
first line or two talk about Windows and PC. She thinks that wrong.
She went to Bellsouth DSL three months ago. Webmail worked fine
with Netscape until a week or so ago. Like her, I have Bellsouth,
OS 9.1, and Communicator 4.8, and her webmail account comes up fine
for me. The only difference I've seen so far is that I have an old
Beige G-3, while she has an Imac a year or two old, with OSX. >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

System Profiler says it's a machine ID 406, iMac Power PC G3
500MHz.
All it says there is OS 9.1.

It came with OS 9 and OSX. She prefers OS 9, but with a computer
like that, does OS 9 somehow run within OSX?
I've never had OSX, but if OSX is active, I wonder if that could
cause Bellsouth's javascript to think she has a PC and not a Mac.
I suppose there aren't many Mac owners who have OSX but browse with
OS 9. >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

She's 78 and finds computers confusing. The message has a lot of
lines. As it makes no sense to her, she would probably make
mistakes if she copied it on paper, then copied it back to email it
to me.
I wonder if it's possible to copy a javascript error message to the
clipboard in order to email it.

Our two systems sound virtually the same. What files can affect
javascript? For example, I may have a later Carbon extension than
hers, but that may have nothing to do with javascript.

How could one be absolutely sure? Wouldn't System Profiler say OSX
was running?

If I got OSX and ran it with the "Classic Environment", would I be
unable to use hardware connected to serial ports? >> Stay informed about: javascript error |

It just says there was an error and tells her to type "javascript:"
into the location window. In my experience, that's what Netscape
4.x does when it finds a javascript error.
