I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and had two HP IP
printers (wireless). They disappeared. I connected
them via their USB ports to get them recognized again,
I want to be sure the proper drivers are loaded via
hardwire before trying the wireless IP add.

The OS configured them behind the scenes. I printed
to the HP DeskJet 832c and the printout had extra
page feeds in it so part printed, part on the next
page, etc.

I printed to the HP LaserJet 5MP, and it seems fine.

Now Googling about the Leopard install, I see that
networked printers were expected to disappear, and
that if you wanted the HP drivers loaded, you had to
have an HP printer connected during the upgrade.
I didn't.

They say:

"there is a Custom install option available on the
Mac OS X v10.5 DVD to install the full HP driver set."

I looked in the optional installs on the disk and don't
see it. How do I load this?

Am I correct in thinking I need to install this, delete
the two printers it has now, replug them in to the
USB ports and it will configure them with the proper
drivers?

If not, what should I do?

Thanks, John

Thanks. I did the install. However, after deleting my two HP printers
(832c and 5MP) and allowing it to recreate them by simply connecting
them via USB, it appeared to get the same drivers, and the 832c is
still wounded in the same way (prints one small page across three,
there are at least two spurious page feeds) and the 5MP still ok.

I think the 832c driver is bad. I went to create a new printer, but
when choosing the proper driver, it tells me I already have one do
I want to continue. I didn't since the result would be the same.
(hmmm... something to try anyway?)

I am now downloading OSXHPInkjetInstaller.dmg from the HP site,
which it recommends for my printer and OS X, but only up to 10.4.
I'm getting a sinking feeling about this as it doesn't mention
Leopard yet, and I have no idea if it will work or just trash
things.

Any suggestions here on how to get the HP 832c printer working
properly?

Another odd thing I see in the Driver tab of the Print & Fax
is "To take full advantage of your printer's options, confirm
that they are accurately shown here. For information on your
printer and its optional hardware, check the printer's
documentation." Well, there is nothing else displayed there,
and it is all greyed out. It is this way for the 5MP printer
too. Odd, I think.

Thanks, John

Even though uneasy about installing OSXHPInkjetInstaller.dmg on
Leopard, I did it, and now have both printers working again.
It took two tries of autodetection for the HP 832C for some
reason (first time it configured it as a generic postscript
printer!, but the second time it got it right and the 5MP
installed correctly as before). So problem solved.

Thanks, John
