If you delete one of the log in users in OS X, what happens to the
documments that were on that users desktop? Can the remaining user
access them? If not what is the best way to keep them? Placing them in
the shared folder does not seem to allow them to be changed or trashed
by the other user.
Basically I have an OS X with two users (both the same name) don't know
how this happened, but I want to get back to just one user without
losing any data.

In OS 10.2 and before the entire user directory will be archived as a
disk image in a new folder called "Deleted Users." In 10.3 the same
thing happens except an option is now available to delete the user
immediatly thus not making the disk image. All items are available to
you from the image with permissions problems.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
