mac itunes won't burn

I suddenly find that itunes (mac 4.1) won't burn playlists anymore
since I upgraded to the current version. It begins initializing the
playlist, then cancels it, saying the device failed to respond
properly. Any advice? Pls reply directly.

The first thing I would try is a re-install.
