Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to take 2 powerbook g4s and make
one of them a second processor to the other one?

Can it be done with any computer?

Thanks,
Josh

Not in the way I think you're thinking of it. The closest thing is
called clustering or distributed computing. Apple's offering in that
arena is called Xgrid, and it was introduced a few years ago. It doesn't
really give you "a" computer with multiple CPUs. What it gives is a way
for computationally intensive work to be spread among a number of
networked machines. You couldn't really use it to pretend you've got a
dual-processor G4 notebook, but you could use it to substantially reduce
the time that 3D rendering or a large software compile will take.

Since Apple sells computers that have 2 CPUs in them (Mac Pro, and
previously some Power Macs), it's technically possible, but it involves
designing and building a custom motherboard to support those two
processors. No laptops have ever had dual CPUs, presumably because of
power and heat problems, but the current ones are dual core.

Besides the surgery suggested by others, you could put them side
by side and use 'teleport' to share the keyboard and mouse of one
system with the other. You could move the mouse pointer from one
screen onto the other and then control applications on the other
Mac.

In this way you could partitions what applications you run on each
system. Say you keep mail on one, and do web surfing on the
other, read news groups on one, play iTunes on the other, etc...
