I have a friend who wants to migrate e-mails from XP/Outlook to a Mac - I
have XP/Outlook experience but have never used a Mac. There are a number of
questions we are both asking: For example if both the XP and Mac machines
are connected to the same network can we share data between the computers
via the network? Does it help us if we can share the data over a network?
(would a cd/dvd be better?) Is there an export / import utility that can
help? Using Outlook I suppose I could send the inbox emails to an smtp
server and then use the Mac to retrieve them via a pop server but I think
there must be an easier/better way????

Can anyone tell me the best and least costly way to migrate Win XP/Outlook
e-mail messages to a Mac (not sure version of Mac software but it will be
purchased new in July 2007 if that's any help).

Any help appreciated.

Have a look at The Entourage Help Page for a Windows to Mac conversion
list of options. <http://entourage.mvps.org/cross_platform/win_mac.html>
If you're both using an Exchange Server in your company then both
Outlook and Entourage can connect and share mail, calendar items and
contacts with the same account.

Hope this helps! bill

If your friend doesn't have a whole bunch of email he/she might want to
try this route.

Visit http://www.myrealbox.com and open a free IMAP account. (Fastmail.fm
and aim.com screw up the message headers, MyRealBox doesn't).

Set up Outlook for the MyRealBox account.

In Outlook move all of the messages to the MyRealBox account.

On the Mac setup Mail.app for the MyRealBox account.

Pull the messages onto the Mac.

I never used my .Mac account, but it's IMAP. Perhaps it could be used the
same way?
