Hi folks,

I want to use my good ol' Mac SE as a Linux terminal, but I'm not sure
how to rig my minidin serial connector to a 9-pin DB connector. Any
suggestions?

I'd love to find a pre-made cable, but if none exist, does anyone have
the pin-out? Maybe I can make one :)

Thanks in advance,

Alex.

Buy an adaptor or a cable. They shouldn't be hard to find.

Sure. When in doubt about anything like this, consult Apple's web
site first. Their knowledgebase is very complete. The following
articles probably have what you want:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=4097" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=4097</a>
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=4300" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=4300</a>
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=12416" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=12416</a>

It's also useful to search their developer site
(http://developer.apple.com/). Both top-level articles and technotes
are useful. I was able to find the following, which may also be of
interest:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://developer.apple.com/technotes/hw/hw_10.html" target="_blank">http://developer.apple.com/technotes/hw/hw_10.html</a>

Pages 5-54 and 5-55 of
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Developer_Notes/Macintosh_CPUs-68K_Portable/Portable.pdf" target="_blank">http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Developer_Notes/Maci...sh_CPUs</a>

Of note: Apple's default searches will not hit any "archive" files
that correspond to old equipment, but there are usually links or
checkboxes you can use to tell it to include them.

Have fun.

At a garage sale or a flea market find an external junk 14000 modem made
for Macs. Many of them use the DB9 or even the DB25 connector on one end
and the minidin serial connector on the other end.
